Troops consolidate Mavilaru : 4 soldiers killed in Tiger mortar fire

Colombo, 11 August, (Asiantribune.com): Security forces on Thursday consolidated its presence in Mavilaru and took the surrounding area of the anicut under its control amid heavy mortar fire by the Tiger guerrillas.

Four soldiers were killed and 38 injured due to LTTE mortar fire, a spokesman for the Media Centre for National Security, Major Rajapakse said.

Unconfirmed sources said 8 soldiers were killed and over 40 injured in the operation.
Troops advanced in the wee hours of Thursday and came under heavy mortar fire by the Tigers.
