Artillery position on fire in Allai military camp

Colombo, 11 August, (Asiantribune.com): An artillery position in the Allai military camp was set on fire after an electrical malfunction of the gun caused an explosion Thursday evening, military sources said.

Heavy fire was seen in the artillery position. The damage was however not yet clear.
It was not clear other guns located in close proximity were affected by the explosion and the subsequent fire.

Army ruled out of any LTTE involvement to the blaze and said it was purely due to a technical malfunctioning of the gun.

No further information was available by this article was posted.
The Alla camp is situated about 10 km from Mavilaru where the security forces are engaged in an operation to chase the Tiger guerrillas who blocked the water supply to 15,000 families.
