LTTE re-attacks Mavil Aru sluice
LTTE Terrorist re launched an artillery and mortar fire at the anicut area in great grief, today (10th) at 04.15 a.m. Operation "Water Shed", launched by the government of Sri Lanka purely on humanitarian grounds finally claimed success when the security forces opened the sluice gates at 08.00p.m, on Tuesday, with the support of the irrigation engineers.
Despite the lifted water blockade of the Mavil -Aru anicut depriving the Seruwila villagers and farmers of the much-needed water; LTTE were unable to withstand the security forces thrust to regain control over the irrigation canal and release water to the desperate farmers and villagers and spread false claims upon the reopening the sluice gates. After the success of the operation "watershed" Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim farmers have the ability to use precious water to cultivate their paddy land again and lead a harmonious life in a peaceful environment, gratefully to the heroic humanitarian mission, by Sri Lankan troops.
The free flow of water from the Mavil Aru anicut was stopped on 20 July 2006 by the Tiger terrorists, depriving life-sustaining water to over 15,000 families of all ethnic groups and damaging over 30,000 of paddy land. This inhuman act by the Tiger terrorists was a threat not only to their livelihoods but also to their very survival.
