LTTE Aircraft destroyed - MOD

Jets Bring Down LTTE Plane involved in Failed Mission

The official website of the Ministry of Defence reported today that an aircraft belonging to the LTTE was shot down while retreating from an attempted attack on a Vavunia air base. The report said the rebels were unable to deliver the bombs and were flying back to the LTTE controlled area when fighter jets launched from Katunayaka airbase intercepted and destroyed one of the two LTTE planes that were detected air defence radars.

Aircraft was shut down. The degree of damage to Vavuniya camp is yet to be established, if any.
