Protest of Abductions

It was indeed pathetic to see people protesting once again falsely accusing the government for the abduction of Tamil civilians. I wonder on what grounds people have made these assumptions? On what little I saw there were a quite a bit of Expats (correct me if I am wrong) as well as many locals over there, standing by liptons circus, holding boards. I wonder if they have got all the facts together or any solid proof that the government or the Military has been responsible for the abductions? If so, please forward them to us, and we will be more than happy to publish them after verifying the information. After all, one cannot be bias even as a blog/news site.

One of the main parties responsible for organizing and promoting today’s rally was the TNA, which is known to be pro-LTTE terrorist supporters. So once again, we wonder who are acting as puppets of the LTTE? Of-course there were other parties which was also on this rally, nevertheless, I did not hear them accusing the government or the military directly for the abductions. Their point was, stop all abductions and solve them.

IF such act has been done by the government, we cannot neglected or misleads the public, but face it, why would a legitimate government organize such act when they have got all the support right now, both politically and militarily to defeat the so called Terrorist, the LTTE?

anybody has the right to protest. So let them do whatever they want. it was not only the TNA, other parties and people were involved. It was a common thing to stop all abductions. May be somepeople worded it differently to benefit them!

There are two broad arguments for holding the government responsible for this.

First, the prime duty of a government is to keep the peace. Meaning that people should be able to go about their affairs without fear from thieves, bandits and other undesirables.

If crime gets to a level that is wholly unacceptable, then the government must bear the responsibility for it and do something about it.

Second, look at the micro situation. People are being abducted and taken away against their will despite heavy security and checkpoints everywhere. Surely, at least one of these cases should have been caught at a checkpoint?

Either government checkpoints are remarkably ineffective OR the perpetrators are operating hand in glove with the government.

Let us for the moment, give the government the benefit of the doubt. Assume that they are not responsible. What have they gone and done about the situation? Next to nothing. A commission appointed very belatedly, and absolutely nothing that has turned up in the way of police investigation either.

All, in all looks pretty suspicious. It happened before - in 1987-1989, chances are it is happening again. Who is doing it? Possibly the army, possibly the special operations units, possibly EPDP/Karuna, both of which would be working with the government.

Any which way I look at it, it does not add up.
