Puleedevan: "Many Tigers dead" in new offensive of Sri Lankan forces
Colombo, 12 August, (Asiantribune.com): Pro-LTTE websites have admitted that the Tigers are "rushing reinforcements to their northern Vanni defences to confront the Sri Lankan Army advance". The Tigers admit that they are being hit in three locations - Jaffna, Trincomalee and Batticoloa
S. Puleedevan , head of the Tigers' Peace Secretariat, said: "Many of our members are dead."
Reuters reported that fighter jets had bombed an LTTE training camp in the east, killing many rebels.
According to analysts the new offensives launched by the Sri Lankan forces in the post-Mavil Aru phase indicate that they are taking a more pro-active in the field instead of its normal reactive responses.
Pro-LTTE websites said that the "Sri Lanka's Army (SLA) launched heavy artillery bombardment against LTTE-held Elephant Pass area Friday and at 5.40 p.m. troops began moving towards LTTE frontlines at Muhamalai."
