Where is Mahela's brilliance when we need it?

There is no question Mahela is one of the greatest batsmen Sri Lanka has ever produced. But I am still waiting to see him play a captain’s inning which rescues Sri Lanka from the jaws of defeat. We have seen many of those from players like Arjuna, Aravinda and Hashan to name a few but every time Mahela comes around with a cameo innings, the chances are Sri Lanka is already in a winning position. Sri Lanka went down in flames today against the South Africans loosing by 78 runs at Ahmedabad in the all important game to ensure passage to the next round and I would have liked to see Mahela play a anchor role and see the Sri Lankan through. But unfortunately, as does he always when Sri Lankans are struggling, Mahela played a stylish 36 only to be run-out!! Sri Lanka’s hopes of qualifying for the next round now depend entirely on the other teams - mainly Pakistan, who needs to win both remaining games for Sri Lanka to qualify – even that only if Sri Lanka ends up with a higher run rate than both NZ and SA. Sigh!!

Not like anyone else was very helpful. Only Vaas was interested in a rescue effort. But he got no support.

In Mahela's defense, it was a pretty unlucky run out. I think he was just settling down to rescue Sri Lanka. But I agree he is yet to play a big, rescue innings for his team as we have seen with Arjuna and the likes.

The comment is correct in its truest sense. But I think the actual pedigree of a captain is not getting his team into messes in the first place.

Yesterday's run out was a shocking piece of cricket from Dilshan. It was purely his fault and nipped a potentially great innings in the bud. But that's cricket. You win some you lose some.

huh? Did you jokers miss the first test in England, 2006? Mahela's just become captain...Arjuna was probably the best captain we've had but how long did it take for him to become good, Aravinda was never really an effective captain and his batting took ages to mature...

and having Hashan in your list of great Sri Lankan captains is laughable...ever seen his leadership skills in action, Sri Lanka vs England in 2003 comes to mind with the an emphasis on crap..

Everybody has their off days....

Mahela sucks. he does not know what he is doing. All he does is have people on his payroll to get the captaincy as well as screw chaminda vaas.

Also he is well-known for his politics that he plays.

So guys, mahela is no angel, he is a guy, who is trying to earn money.

It has also been said that he has been in to match fixing. All this kid wants is to have fame and make money, and does not care abt the game. the gentlemens game.

yes, all very clever comments by the anons. As N mentioned he played beautifully in england, the 2nd test vs south africa? yeah he got a hundred and we won it chasing 350 plus. that's 2 cases in our last 2 test series. Twats.

DDM = Dumb, Dickhead, Moron

Do you know anything about Mahela? What he has done for Sri Lankan Cricket? How he is screwed people?
People who are on his payrole not to publish anything what he does?

These are certain things, the Gentlemens game should not have. So until you know these, do not talk.

Mahela is a good player but he is too selfish and opportunistic that one tend to think he a least bit worried about the team. All the above mentioned innings did help sri lanka win but were obviously played in a self-serving manner. He is only worried about his average and not the final result.

TRUE. He does not care abt anything else. All in the name of money and fame! That's all what this kid wants!

Thanks to Mahela, we lost. His selection of the team was horrible! What kind of Captain is he, if he only thinks of personal gains.

Also, team members carrying bags? What the F is this? I heard this story before as well, but didnt think it was true. Will verify the info in the coming days and send an article for LW.
