Mark of a Pussy Cat

After the suicide blast in Habarana, the likes of BBC's Luthra and the independent security commentator D.B. Jeyraj, was quick to rule out the popular notion that the LTTE has been weakened. D.B Jeyraj in particular pointed out that despite the fact that a Buddhist clergy has called the Tigers a bunch of pussy cats, the blast that killed 100 navy men was in fact proof of how strong the LTTE is. But does this not go against all conventional wisdom? Rebel groups, in fact, only tend to resolve to acts of indiscriminate violence when they are unable to engage the government forces in the battle field. The LTTE, despite promising a ‘final war’ with rhetoric that sounded like the people’s army marching to take over power in China, suffered catastrophic defeats in the battle fields recently. Does anyone think, if this wasn't the case the LTTE would have risked the negative publicity they receive by living up to the reputation of being a terrorist group that uses suicide bombers?

It is pretty clear the ability for the LTTE to engage in conventional battle has been drastically reduced. And with it, the LTTE’s use of suicide bombing against civilians will increase. While pundits debate the strength of the LTTE, the cycle of violence is sure to continue. And the worse the LTTE does in the battles, the more civilians will be targeted. Such is the dilema of the government.

100s of soliders were killed in battle recently in the Jaffna peninsula. I think that is clear proof the LTTE can defeat the government forces.

That is one battle and there was no change to the FDL. Face to face army has been able to push back the tigers.

LTTE was unable to move the SLA at all, hence it shows that the LTTE is weak. LTTE lost more men, after all they used their fullest force to defeat the millitary, but to their dismay, they were unable to do much!

SO LTTE, you are all bygones!

Keep dreaming. The battle in Jaffna proved that with all of Mahinda's efforts, the LTTE is undefeatable. LTTE can never ever be defeated by the SL Army. Why else do you think the government agreed to talk peace?

Here are the main reasons the government will not win this war:

1. Lack of respect for the enemy.

2. Lack of genuine effort to negotiate a settlement.

3. Lack of initiative to discuss reconcilliation.

4. Lack of of a basic long term plan to secure the rights of minorities.

5. Lack of incentive for those who chose democracy over violence.

Its a fact that the LTTE would stick to low level terrorist acts and they cannot defeat the SLA. This is proven, in the past few months. Get your facts correct before you make your conclusions you terrorist.

After all, what have you achieved in the past few months? Any new land? Oh forgot, you terrorist lost land and ran like whips when the army attacked you while you were preventing the civilians receiving water by closing the gates.

You will never defeat the SLA, and that's a known fact. All you can do is, do the scary suicide missions as that's all you tiger terrorist are good at.

Talking of a war, have you been in the battle field? If not, come, i will take you to it and show how your so called tamil rebels go down!

Yes. LTTE is no different to Al Qaeda. All they are good at is terrorising.

If LTTE is going to be forgiven, we should also forgive Al Qaeda.

Both parties are ruthless terrorist, who has and will destory anything that walks their way.
