Luthra on BBC radio says LTTE main suspect but other groups exist. Who?
Talking live on the BBC News hour, Dumeetha Luthra said the LTTE Tamil Tiger rebels have shown that on the contrary to military claims that the LTTE has been weakened in the last few weeks due to military offensives, the suicide blast in Habarana proves that the LTTE is possibly stronger than before. The statement was followed by Luthra saying although the LTTE is the only powerful force in Sri Lanka that can carry out an attack of this magnitude, there are other groups that operate in Sri Lanka.
Firstly, from a military point of view if the LTTE was indeed more powerful, they will stick to engaging the Sri Lankan forces in the frontlines. According to military analysts guerilla entities tend to attack targets that contain unarmed or civilian personnel when they are unable to engage enemy in a conventional manner. The LTTE has suffered heavy casualties in battle field and the suicide blast in Habaran is a clear indication that the LTTE is unable to make any progress or defend its de facto borders against the Army.
Secondly, she refers to other groups who exist in Sri Lanka that could have carried out an attack against unarmed personnel. It is completely baffling to think that the experienced Luthra of the British Broadcasting Corporation, who has been covering Sri Lankan ethnic conflict, thinks there are other groups in Sri Lanka that has the ability and the motivation to carry out an attack against the military. Luthra should explain who she is referring to.

Luthra is a fame seeking amature who should audition for the American Idol!! She has no clue about what is going on in Sri Lanka and chose to say things that will be appealing to consumers.
Good insight. She needs to explain where she comes up with these rediculous ideas.
Excellent point!!! What the hell is she talking about? The LTTE's move to attack unarmed soldiers as opposed to fighting them in the battlefield like men, shows their desperations!! My sympathies to our heros who have defended the country against the cowards.
Luther should not be given a visa to visit sri lanka. in the past, it has been proven that luther is a LTTE supporter, and any supporters of the LTTE are terrorist.
My considering this, EU, high time you start questioning any terrorist or supporters of any banned organisation.
BBC, why do you employ terrorist? i thought BBC was a legitimate organisation, however these reports without any facts show one thing and one thing only, that they do make statements without any facts.
Dumeetha Luthra is a terrorist. Who wants fame, so what best way to get it by supporting a terrorist organisation such as the LTTE indirectly.
Good point, bann her from visiting Sri Lanka. No terrorist should be allowed in the country or leave.
Dumeetha Luthra is just after fame
I don't think Sri Lankan people can be objective. Luthra has done a fabulous job in Sri Lanka. It may seem biased to racist and unitelligent people.
I don't think a fricking foreigner who knows nothing about the history and reasons for the conflict can be objective. How BBC has Luthra in Sri Lanka when there are thousands of well qualified Sri Lankan journalists here? What the hell is she? British? Indian? She doesn't seem to know the first thing about anything going on in this country.
The so called freaking foreigner actually happens to have more brains that you bastards.
Come on people. The other group that she is referring to could be the Karuna Faction. Karuna Faction cannot be trusted too.
Even the JVP and JHU are having an armed gang. They could have done it too. Remember the JVP and JHU will do anything to make sure that peace does not exist in this country.
The main suspects are
1) LTTE
2) Karuna Faction
3) JVP & JHU
2) Karuna Faction
3) JVP & JHU
You got to be kidding me. I don’t trust Bugs Bunny too – but I don’t think he did it.
Oh! My mistake. You are correct. Matter of fact, It is not LTTE at all – that is JVP and JHU fighting for Elam! Stupid me! I never had any idea! Poor Prabakaram. We blame him all this time for nothing.
Anyway Luthra should have her freedom to express her ideas. If she thinks, there are other suspected groups; she should be able to say it. She has no moral responsibility to be loyal to SL. And we can’t expect her to be.
She spices up her news little bit + she always tried be ‘extra fair’ for LTTE.
Yes. Some times it looks like she is reporting about her ‘friend’.
not only Luthra, LTTE also treat western media very good. We have seen how other terrorists groups treat western media.
Luthra need news. LTTE make news. Two deferent objects – but sympathetic to each other.
In otherhand we have a responsibility of creating attractive news – that we are not good at all.
We can’t blame Luthra for our weakness.
Sam, well said. What we have to understand is that the LTTE needs their message read out to the international community. Hence, what best way to do it, other than get international media on their side. After all, the head of south east asia is supposed to be a Sri Lankan tamil. This also proves why BBC reports are biased towards the LTTE.
The Idiot who thinks JVP/JHU wants to kill the army, get a life, and get the F out of this country.
1)You are probably a EXPAT who lived somewhere all your life and now want to talk crap at the cost of the country.
2) LTTE Terrorist
3) LTTE Supporter
4) Suda/sudhi fellow who is a Terrorist supporter (u after fame too?)
May be you should go for a gang bang with Luther and her LTTE Boyfriend she has been dating for a while...
IN the midst of this vitriole it is easy to miss the facts.
My opinions on Luthra are irrelevant although I wouldn't mind an invitation for that gang bang if it's being organised.
It is obvious to anyone that it is the Karuna faction that is being referred to. But in the name of credible reporting Luthra MUST give reasons for her assertion. She has a duty as a reporter to not air her opinions on the world stage. That's what experts are for and she is merely a correspondent. If there is no attributable motivation for these 'other groups' - she should nto speculate.
The LTTE is a manifestation of the unfair treatment of the GOSL of Tamils. The majority feels injustice when the LTTE is portrayed as freedom fighters. We mustn't forget in our emotional reactions that they are exactly that to some.
Luthra is entitled to portray the LTTE as she sees fit as long as she is factually accurate.
Our objections to her should be based purely on her factual inaccuracy, her inability to gather information and her unsubstantiated speculation. The objections should be based on the strength that it contributes to shocking journalism. If we direct our anger at her personally we stand to lose credibility.
Perhaps we can shift these objections to a forum which is likely to be visible to the BBC, or perhaps lodge a formal protest with relevant authorities. Just a thought.
We need to point out legitimately why she is a cunt without just calling her one.
fab. point i could not say anything better.
chee sophist... what would your fiancée say if u started going to gang banging parties?
Luthra is entitled to her opinion but the BBC should be concerned about what their sole correspondent is reporting. I am sure BBC is the benefit of the doubt to the reporter since locals always tend to be unhappy with the correspondents but this is absurd. She just doesn't seem to know the situation in Sri Lanka.
She doesnt care or know abt the situ in sri lanka. all she cares is abt getting fame and making a quick buck.
I suggest we organize a debate with Luther on her facts and findings in the past. That's the best way we could say if she knows what she is talking about.
So what say you luther? how abt a debate? and guys, any volunteers for this debate?
If she think Karuna faction has the intention to kill 100 solidiers Mr Bean should be BBC corresponded to Sri Lanka. Then again he already has fame. It is Luthra who needs it.
I'd volunteer for the debate. But as someone pointed out we need to make sure the BBC is appraised of the incompetence of its employee.
Sophist, cool point.
BBC has to be questioned. Why wont you write and article and send it to our friends at Lankawatch.
