Where is Dhanapala?

After Jayatha Dhanapala’s departure from the Peace Secretariat, Sri Lankan plunged back into a war-like situation with both sides carrying out an undeclared war. Not to suggest things would be different had he kept his job but his exit from the peace process was a blow. Some think Dhanapala’s resignation as the Director of the Peace secretariat had nothing to do with the UN top job. They believe he left the position after it became clear his life was in danger. Sure enough, his one time deputy Katheesh Loganathan was murdered not long after.

The good news about Dhanapala’s resignation was that he was thought to have a genuine chance of becoming the next UN secretary general. But over the months his chances seem to have dwindled and the forerunners are now candidates from South Korea and India. Dhanalapala only managed secure the 5th position in an informal vote conducted at the UN by the council members. So what next for the great diplomat from Sri Lanka?

if he's sensible he'd just retire and live out the rest of his days playing golf or something along those lines :)
