Multi Stakeholder National Conference and Exhibition at BMICH
Today (12th September), WORLDVIEW organization headed by Dr. Tara De Mel (Chairperson) hosted the national conference at BMICH. Worldview is a community led civil society initiative supported by the Government, Private Sector, NGOs, CBOs, International Agencies and the United Nations.
Worldview Sri Lanka, an organization which focuses on human development and good governance practices, has launched a civil society led initiative to complement the national MDG (Millennium Development Goals by 2015) agenda. By promoting and facilitating Multi Stakeholder Partnerships and Multi Level Networking (MSP and MLN) a community based, integrated approach to reach the MDG targets has been planned.
The above conference was a part of a series of activities conducted by Worldview thought the MSP and MLN, which will provide an interactive platform for all key stakeholders including Community Based Organizations to share their views and formulate a strategic roadmap with innovative solutions to reach the MDGs.
Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Hon Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs was the Chief Guest at the inaugural session of the conference. Dr Amunugama’s speech was indeed praiseworthy and a long overdue speech by any an individual regardless of the sector they came from.
The conference had six very effective parallel thematic sessions focusing on:
1) Equitable Economic Development
2) Protection and Participation of Children
3) Quality Education for All
4) Improving Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition
5) Combating HIV Aids, TB, Malaria and other Diseases
6) Environment for Sustainable Development
This conference was indeed a very successful conference with hundreds of participants attending the day long seminar/discussion forum.
Great to see such organization heading by reputed person such as Dr. Tara De Mel, who will actually work towards achieving goals.
