Can NGO's have Weed and Orgie parties?
It has been notices that many individuals have taken in to heart and also criticized regarding certain party which took place. In a democratic country we have the write to make our own judgments. However, the point here should be that, NGO’s should not have wild parties at their premises as that goes against primary objective of helping people.
Can they have parties? Of course they are human and everybody needs to have fun, nevertheless, it is not necessarily accepted that any one has parties of the nature that took place this weekend. Eg: if this party was held at a government office, what do you think the feedback would have been? Especially the NGO sector would have been the first to criticize such act.
I think, the message here once again to reiterate, people agree in having parties and living a normal life. After all, everybody likes ot have fun, but not having parties of such nature in an office premise. This is what is been questioned and not the concept of NGO’s having fun. Of-course everybody is human.
If you are not clear on the facts in regards to the French aid workers which was killed, read the facts and then make your conclusions. Without stating on ridicules facts that the out-going head said. If you make such judgments, what facts have you go? The head of SLMM was speechless after the facts where given and the reason or the conclusion was questioned by leading lawyers and other figures? The entire area was under LTTE control the time the murder took place, so what makes you think a few soldiers would go there and try anything of that sort? It’s a suicidal mission if they did even? I am not sure of the exact facts as we have not done any research in this regards. So do your research and then come to conclusions. Not by a statement of a person who is hallucinating and with other agendas?
I think its time the NGO sector stop criticizing the government of Sri Lanka and do your job. If you cannot accept certain things about a third world country, you should not be there and head back home. Remember you are here to do a job, and also you should understand that the government of Sri Lanka does far more work as a whole to the community than any one NGO. For eg:
* Does any of the NGO's offer rice free to 52% of the population? Via the Samudhri the government of SL offer rice (ration cards) to the public
* Does any of the NGO's offer free education to the 19 million population of a country? From kindergarten to university (post grad as well) no where in the world you get such system. Sri Lanka has a high literacy rate of over 92% compared to other nations.
* Does any NGO subsidies Fuel to an entire nation?
This list would be endless if all the facts are taken in to place. And who were the first to offer food to the public after the current situation in Jaffna, the Government of Sri Lanka. Of-course they took the help of leading organizations such as ICRC etc.
After the tsunami who helped the people ? Was it the ngo? No it wasn’t it was the people of Sri Lanka. NGO’s came way after that. Who helped the people of Ampara? It was the STF who gave them food and shelter the day the tragic incident took place.
The issue Sri Lanka faces is people don’t look at actual facts, they go by a few facts and come to their own conclusion. This is common with the expat community in Sri Lanka. They come, and look at the potential lifestyle that they can have, and get carried away. Once again, don’t get me wrong, only a few who do fit in to these criteria’s.
Nevertheless, the main objective of this article was to say that, you can have fun, we all agree on it, but not in the nature it happen at an office premises!! We will not try to question why no Sri Lankan’s where present at the so called party, as your “guess” is good as mine!
All the best, have fun, but bloody hell do your freaking job without trying to criticize people all the time!

not all ngo workers are bad, they do a job. but you get the few who hardly does anything and the only thing they do is point fingers at others to hide their incompetence levels.
these are the people who brings the bad name to the sector. same as any sector, the difference is these people are stealing from the poor, the community that needs helping.
so stop stealing from the poor and do your job, if not, just go back, there are many genuine aid workers who are willing to come to sri lanka and do a proper job!
I think there should be a organization to monitor the activity of ngos in sri lanka. I know this is a long overdue thing, as we have seen what many of the ngos do. This will eliminate any unwanted people and protect the good names of people like us, who actually do work.
Government of sri lanka, this is over to you sir.
Mark
Good article. keep up the good work
Hey Dumbo!
When the Tsunami struck in Sri Lanka the NGO's were there within a few hours, because I got to know of the Tsunami within a few minutes of it hitting Sri Lanka from friend who works in an INGO who was preparing to go to check on the welfare of the people soon after the Tsuanami.
You would not have known cos' you were scared to come out from under your table remember.
Check your facts first.
and where were you hiding? jackass?
So why wont you tell us all where you were when it happened? and what areas you covered?
Ladies ladies.... play nice. However, i would also like to know which ngo was there after the tsunami and what level of help they did? Sooo?
Once again you guys are missing the plot. not all ngos are bad. only a few which brings the bad name to all. like anything else.
so stop taking things personally. unless you are guilty you should not worry too much.
sounds like the writer is still upset he wasn't invited to the party :) chill dude, i'm sure there will be more.. hehe..
Some of the ideas in the post are not new. They come directly from a half-stupid speech given by the half-carzy minister Amunugama yesterday morning at BMICH.
Enough about the originality.
Can an NGO have weed and Orgie parties? Why not? Who cares? It is definitely not our business. Why should it bother us? Who are we? Are we the cultural police to decide what others should do or not?
Yes, if that happens in a government office, we will definitely make a fuss, because it is our business. Govt. offices are funded by our tax money. NGOs are not. That is a big difference.
Just to point out what I said 3 days back!!!!
Yaa this is true.. but did you also hear about the big parties that the politicians and their sons have with "Russians" too and pay about Rs10 000 a hr for them to dance for them.. And thats our money..
atleast the NGO's use some other countries money.. lol.. There are much bigger issues for us to worry about than a party!!! Please try and post some news worthy articles..
Mr James needs to stop blogging and take some basic economics lessosn and figure out for himself what a negative long-term impact all the subsidies is having on teh country. Inflation is a direct result of all the subsidies.
As for facts surrounding the killing of aid workers, there is an equal amount of public evidence out there which suggests that the army was in control at that time. I think the army is no better than the murderous LTTE. Personally I'd take the word of and unbiased peace monitor (yes unbiased! despite the frivolous claims of partiality that the government keeps accusing them of)than that of a corrupt and idotic government official even if it from teh peace secretariat.
Mr Anonymous - what are you high on at this point?
I want to know how one knows the other's gender :)
Rock on ngots (NGO people)!!
Hmmm I agree NGO can do what they like in their personal time. But is it ethical for them to be doing something that is against the laws of the country they serve? Is breaking our laws by foreigners not our business?
Yeah, i think one guy is pissed that they were pointed out. Dude, show me the facts that you have? Either you are a ltte supporter (terrorist) or you dont care shit. no facts, no talk!
Mr. Anonymous,
why wont you back up the facts on the aid workers? why wont you come up openly and say it? give us your contact details on the block and we will all meet when you show the facts that teh sri lankan military killed them? so if you cannot supply us these details, i suggest you go fly... or go back to the wanni?
oh, a note, please do read the papers, its only rs: 15-20 per paper.
guess dude he has no facts, only the concept that the ltte probably did it.
but we all would like to see who this person is? why not post a pic of you on the web?
ha ha ha...
typical ltte supporter. no facts, only false statements.
