"Badly mauled Tigers ready for peace talks if SL stops fighting" – Hindustan Times

HindustanTimes.com reports that the Tigers have agreed to talks as a result of heavy defeats received at the hands of superior firepower of the SL armed forces. Spokesman for the LTTE Tamil Tigers, Thamilselvan, has said the LTTE is now ready for talks but demanded the government halt its offensive against the Tigers which resulted in the redrawing of the boundaries of the areas controlled by the two parties in government’s favor. As expected, the rhetoric of the Tamil Tigers remained aggressive with Thamilselvan warning of mayhem if the government did not suspend the on-going military operation in which 100s of Tigers have been thought to have lost their lives but the message has been increasingly desperate showing imminent signs of complete breakdown of the rebel organization. In addition to the battlefront, Tigers have also suffered various political defeats including the proscription of the LTTE by the EU, FBI sting operation that netted tiger operatives attempting to purchase weapons in the US and more recently investigations in India, Australia, Thailand, Malaysia and EU into various Tiger related activity.
