LTTE on the back foot – Resort to cowardly tactics

The LTTE is reported to have suffered heavy defeats in the hands of the Sri Lankan military that is carrying out a strategic military campaign to neutralize the areas controlled by the LTTE. The LTTE which as a matter of policy runs of a strategy that includes the bombings of civilian and religious targets, assassination of opponents, kidnapping and extortion and recruitment of underage children, has many a time in the past resorted to various ugly and cowardly acts to justify and continue the war against the government. These acts of cowardliness are no more prominent than when the LTTE is struggling at the jaws of defeat.

One of the most brutal and barbaric of all LTTE cowardly strategies is the involving civilians in campaign. In a sickening revelation witnesses have said that the LTTE repeatedly filled up buildings used as training camps with school children ahead of an imminent air attack. Then they use the incident for propaganda purposes to win sympathy. The LTTE also attempts to prevent civilians feeing from areas of conflict to maximize civilian casualty and discourage the government from responding to LTTE artillery fire.

The government has gone into great lengths to protect civilians. It is in their best interest to get the Tamils on board against the menace that LTTE has come to be. Interestingly, the Tamils that live in these conflict areas are fully aware of it. Sadly, it is the international community including the Tamil diaspora in the west that gets taken for a ride.
