Vakarai to fall

The Sri Lanka military has said the town of Vakarai, a stronghold of the LTTE, will likely fall into the hands of the Sri Lankan military in the coming days. The announcement comes shortly after the state media reported that the president has signed a memorandum of understanding with an Indian power company to build a coal power plant in the town of Sampoor which fell into the hands of the military last month after weeks of fierce fighting. The developments indicate, the government is committed to push the Tamil Tigers out of the East which was floated off as a separate province last week. The Eastern and the Northern provinces were merged under the Indo-Lanka accord signed in 1987.
