Saddam Hanging - Shame on US
I woke up to the news of the hanging of Saddam Hussein with a nostalgic feeling that I am living the dark ages. Soon, the feeling turned nauseating when the US media started running the video clip of Saddam being led to the gallows. Despite the claim that the hanging is the result of the Iraqi justice in action, it is no secret US military still controls the country, and thus the punishment - while Iraq is still functionally still under a western power - is cruel and inhuman let alone counter-productive. Iraq is still under the US occupation and in fact Saddam was under the US custody until minutes before his death. The United States is clearly the architect of the hanging and it is disappointing that president George W. Bush seems to openly welcome the sudden and brutal end of a dictator who at least during his rule, kept the country together. There is no excuse for what Saddam Hussein did in his decades long dictatorial reign of Iraq, but there is also no excuse for the manner in which a western country advocates the barbaric practice of hanging; a practice even most third world countries, including Sri Lanka has refused to carry out despite being an option under the Sri Lankan law.

US in fact tried to delay the execution. It is unfair to blame the US. it was purely a Iraqi thing.
The bad thing about killing Saddam is they can not kill him no more.
Bugger died like a real man. He died like he lived.
I wish execution process could have been more professional. But Arabs are Arabs.
Saddam knew that very will – unfortunately Bush didn’t knew that.
US did not try to delay the execution.. they were the ones who catalysed the execution. And this whole thing has american hands,, the americans were the masterminds behind saddam not being put to th einternational war crimes tribunal. Now the americans are spearheading a probe on the video issue, and giving it a very sectarian outlook, to keep fighting go on in iraq, and have more time to legitimize their stay thier.
The US has no strategic interest in Serbia, hence the US lazily watched as Slobodan Milosovic died naturally while his case kept dragging...
If the same legal sysyetm now present in iraq, was used against americas interest..it would have been called kangaroo court.
saddam did his crimes, but if theis same saystem of justice is to be applied to every one living at present, saddam definitely wont be the first one to be hung.. there are several others who should be hung before him.
saddam is accused of killing 148 ppl in dujail for what he was killed. There have been 200,000 who had been killed from jan 2006 to june 2006, because of whom? definitely not ssaddam na
The Iraqis are the barbarians. Obviously this lot is no better than the ones they replaced. Sadham got what he deserved.
The US did what had to be done, by someone, someday. When the US leaves, the damn Iraqis will kill each other even more. And whose fault is that anyway?
Why is it US's business again? Why arent the US doing the same in North Korea, Iran, Zimbabwe, Dafur, Israel to name a few?
So if someone does the right thing only in one place, intervenes in one mess, they must necessarily be responsible for cleaning up everyone else's mess too ?
No!! It means you are an idiot who thinks US was there to do the right thing. Right thing has nothing to do with this. Its oil!!!
Consider:
Under Saddam:
People were killed if his power is threatened
He kept the republic together.
There was adequate security for public.
Women had a say.
Minorities had a say.
Kept the Al -Queda at bay.
Kept foreign terrorist elements at bay.
Iraq was a secular state.
Never harmed a US citizen.
No threat to the US.
Only threat to Israel but they have the bomb.
Without Saddam ...
Must I continue ?
