Monitors condemn the Army raids. Should they?

Regardless of what your opinion may be, I think the Scandinavians’ have tried to implement an equitable solution to the conflict in Sri Lanka. But I also think along the way, they have upped their stakes so high that they have inherently succumbed to the predisposition of achieving that solution. Would the Scandinavians, assuming that they were taken seriously by the Americans, ever call the American aggression against the Taliban unacceptable? Of course not - because Taliban is accepted by the west to be a terrorist group and not least because Americans aren’t a signatory to a ceasefire with the Taliban. But notwithstanding the ceasefire in Sri Lanka, which in all’s opinion is close to non-existent, there is little difference between the Sri Lankan offensive against the LTTE. LTTE after all, is listed as a terrorist group by most civilized countries except perhaps understandably, Norway. So, though Norwegians expectedly criticize raids on the LTTE, objectively, a nation defending it self against a terrorist group is hardly an incident to be condemned. If LTTE was a legitimate entity - that is not by the definition of the word a group formed to kill innocent civilians and carry out indiscriminate destruction - then that would be a different story. So condemning attacks on a terrorist organization is while the right strategy in view of the parochial goal of the Scandinavians, it can be safely ignored as a deed carried out only in the interest of their own goals and not something that is objective. So yes, they should condemn; but as long as LTTE is engaged in violence, it is perfectly sensible for the government to disregard the Scandinavian opinion.

On the head! May be Norwegians should now use a different tactic and invest in the promotion of education and democracy in Sri Lanka. Both which will, if done right, means channel money to eliminate those who stall education and democracy. Hmm there is only one of those!! the LTTE!

Ye come to think of it why would anyone help the LTTE? They have used violence and intimidation to oppress other views; used children in combat, carried out genocide; targeted civilians etc etc .. So why should Norway grant them the same benefits as they do to an elected government.

Everyone is welcome in this country but don't meddle with the politics here, especially if you are supporting terrorists.

Can't blame them for trying!! Government hasn't been completely guilt-free either. They have been violent and discriminatory.

well said hitch. i really dont understand why those scandinavian buggers treat the country of sri lanka on the same level as a bunch of bloody terrorists. sri lankan defence forces have every right to operate anywhere they wish on the island. where r the fuckin norwegians every time the ltte blows up a fucking claymore in the middle of a bunch of civvies, huh?

comparing the amount of 'civvies' the army has killed with claymore mines planted by the DPU with the amount killed by ltte claymores, they are the same - as bad as each other!

That doesn't make any sense nor is there any proof of that. Even the Norwegians agree that government tries to abide by the CFA and the international law. Anything else would be a self defeat for the Army. Any lawlessness or civilian killings is a defeat for the government. So they dont. LTTE on the other hand who has carried out >3000 CFA violations survives on violence and intemidation.
