Pakistan diplomat escapes Sri Lanka blast, seven killed
Lankapress Colombo, August.14: Pakistan's top diplomat in Sri Lanka escaped a powerful bomb attack in the capital Colombo Monday but seven people including four of his elite bodyguards were killed, police said.
High Commissioner (ambassador) Bashir Wali Mohamed was returning from a flag-raising ceremony for Pakistan's Independence Day when he was attacked near President Mahinda Rajapakse's official residence, police said.
"It was a Claymore mine which was rigged on to a three-wheel taxi that caused the blast," a police official told AFP. "The ambassador's back-up jeep took the full brunt of the blast."
