Tremors in the South

Several areas in the Southern Province experienced minor earth tremors early morning on the 6th of August.

According to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, the tremors felt in Tangalle, Beliatte, Ranna and Kudawella areas had occurred around 5.45 a.m yesterday. GSMB Director Dr. D. M. D. O. K. Dissanayake said geologists from the bureau who were dispatched to the areas are investigating into the cause of the tremors.

These tremors were of very slight magnitude and had been recorded at the Pallekele Seismological station," he said.

According to the Bureau, one possible cause of the tremors could be the collapsing of caverns underneath limestone which forms the Earth in the affected area.
