Sufficient food stocks Jaffna bound

KOTTE: Social Services and Cooperative Development Minister Douglas Devananda yesterday expressed optimism that the Government could despatch sufficient food stocks to the Jaffna peninsula in time before any severe food shortage could crop up there.

Addressing the media, yesterday at the Parliament complex, the Minister said the Government had given permission for traders to bring food stocks directly from South India to Jaffna.

The Minister said 1,200 metric tons of food and other essential items have already been loaded to be shipped to Jaffna, from Colombo once the whether improves.
