LTTE continues with hostilities- Vavunathivu

LTTE terrorists sparked fresh violence in the eastern forward defence line (FDL) at Vavunativu in Batticaloa today (Monday the 21st of August) as they launched a shelling attack at the Army observation point.

The attack was commenced at 4.00 this evening with 81mm mortar shells fired on the Army detachment at Vavunathivu. The shelling followed by the RPG and small arms fire directed at the observation post.

Army soldiers at the post successfully repulsed the attack and chased away the terrorist. The army personnel suffered no injuries in the attack.
