LTTE face heavy defeat

An unidentified officer attached to an army regiment near Kilali has said over 40 LTTE boats have been destroyed and over 150 LTTE personnel have been killed in a failed bid to take over the government held Kilali lagoon. In what appears to be a major miscalculation by the LTTE, the militants faced heavy retaliatory fire from the government security forces forcing the Tigers to retreat. The Tiger forces in the area are presumed to be significantly weakened and the army is said to have secured the lagoon and the surrounding areas. Interestly, no reports about the conflict was reported in the TamilNet at the time of this posting.
