Sri Lanka's main Muslim party contests Finance Minister's statement on equitable relief distribution
(TLA) Munza Mushtaq in Colombo, February 16, 2005, 11.48 p.m.. Sri Lanka's main Muslim Opposition Party today contested the claim made by Finance Minister Sarath Amunugama that the Government has been able to provide relief assistance to over 70% of the tsunami victims. "This percentage is based on what figures," queried SLMC Secretary General Hasan Ali. He further emphasised that it was solely because of private donors and institutions that the people specially in the East were currently enjoying the basic necessities. The relief sent by the Government was not even enough for those particular Divisional Secretariats.
