LTTE should renounce terrorism and lay down arms

The SL government is ready to consider peace talks, if the LTTE terrorists renounce terrorism and lay down arms, and withdraw child combatants from its ranks stated a government official to a query from the "defence.lk", with relevant to the present status of the peace talks.

Senior government officials stated that the President had made this reference to representatives of the co-chairs of the Tokyo donor conference. The LTTE should immediately give up killing of those engaged in democratic politics.

It was pointed the tigers should also refrain from launching all forms of attacks. Though the government has taken a clear stand to solve the North East conflict, Tamil civilians in the North are experiencing difficulties due to LTTE led coward offensives using civilians as " Human Shields" against possible retaliation.
