Doubts over Jaffna Vice -Chancellor's statement - Jaffna
R Kumaravelu, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, the favoured nominee of the LTTE to take up the post of Vice-Chancellor, has issued a statement denying Lanka Army's statement that weapons were kept hidden inside the University complex.
The Peace Secretariat in Vanni and several pro-LTTE Tamil newspapers and news websites have highlighted the press statement issued under the name of the Vice-chancellor, Kumaravelu.
Kumaravelu was one of the candidates who applied to fill the vacant post of Vice-Chancellor. However, when the governing body of universities appointed the distinguished academic Prof. Ratnajeevan Hoole the LTTE ran protest campaigns and threatened Prof. Hoole with death if he stepped into the Jaffna campus. After Prof. Hoole fled the country with his family Kumaravelu was allowed to function as the acting vice-chancellor by the LTTE.
