Increase in LTTE violence - Sampoor & Thopoor

Fresh fighting erupted between security forces and the LTTE yesterday, (Monday the 28th of August) in Selvanagar and Thopoor area as the terrorists attacked a clearing operation conducted by the troops in order to ensure safety for the resettlement of internally displaced persons.

Over 40000 civilians mostly Muslims in the Eastern province were driven off from their native places by the LTTE terrorists when they launched a major attack at the security forces earlier this month. Many hundreds of Muslim civilians were killed by the mass executions carried out by the LTTE.
