Someone please tell me why Mahinda is going to London!

President going to London town to see the … well not the queen but the PM Tony Blair. Something's out of place here. It is not very often that a Sri Lankan president is invited to meet with such influential people as the British PM. There have been leaders of Sri Lanka who have never met both the British PM and the US president in their term. And with everything going on in the UK, it is hardly a good time for Blair to make courtesy calls on its little ex-colonial nations. So why then is Mahinda suddenly summoned to the Number 10? The reason in the media is the disintegrating ceasefire. But what about it? Is the British PM upset with the Lankan president for his part in the current offensive against the Tigers? Is he upset enough to threaten to lift the ban on the Tamil Tigers that has been in effect since 2000? It is hard to imagine, alternately, the PM is suddenly motivated by the government's push to destroy the Tiger entities ("to neutralize the Tiger threat") and offer to support the Sri Lankan leader. So then a threat of some kind must be it! Mahinda is probably rushing off to London like a school kid being summoned to the principal's office! I won’t be surprised if the offensive comes to a grinding halt following this sudden and discrete visit to London.

Or may be he has managed to do what other Sri Lankan leaders have failed to do ... Command respect out of being honest and straight forward. There is no need to beat around the bush when it comes to the LTTE. They are terrorists and must be eliminated.
