Nov 18 (LankaWatch.com) With all the votes counted, initial reports released by the Election Commission indicate that Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse has won the 5th Presidential Election in Sri Lanka. Elections which were relatively free of irregularities is expected to be declared free-and-fair by the commission as well as the independent monitoring groups. If certified, the results will confirm Mr. Rajapakse as the 5th executive president of Sri Lanka denying Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe who came in a close second in a hard fought battle which most see as a referendum on the peace process with the Tamil Tigers.
