Re-polling a possibility in troubled centers

Nov 17 (LankaWatch.com) Speaking to reporters yesterday, election commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake said that re-polling in specific divisions is a possibility if irregularities were known to have taken place in any of the stations during the Nov 17th polls. The polling has since ended and it is unclear if such irregularities have indeed taken place in any of the 160 polling divisions throughout the country. Reports reaching Colombo indicate the polling has been largely trouble-free except for some reports of violence in the east of the island. Reports also suggest a high turnout was recorded in the south and western parts of the island while the turnout in the Tamil dominated areas have been very low.

In the event of irregularities, Mr Dissanayake said the re-polls will be held on the 19th of November and would result in delaying of the confirmation of the final results.
