An Appeal to Appoint a Presidential Inquiry Commission Into the Killing of A.Amirthalingham
Today is the sixteenth death anniversary of Appapillai Amirthalingam. He was killed by cold-blooded gunmen of the LTTE who got into his house in Colombo the pretext of being friendly visitors. Up to now the government has not launched an inquiry into his death. Amirthalingam was the leader of a democratic Tamil party. In fact he was the leader of the leading Tamil party that worked tirelessly for the Tamils. He was elected by the Tamil people. He was not armed. He was not carrying a gun. He was expressing his politics through his non-violent words and actions. Yet he became a victim of the violent culture that gripped Jaffna Tamil society.
