Sri Lanka's United Nations Mission has no clout over Tigers
New York, 27 February (Asiantribune): "The Sri Lanka Permanent Mission to the United Nations can only make suggestions and make our concerns heard in UN forums, which we did at the Security Council on February 23, but it is up to the permanent members of the security council to make a decision what specific action needs to be taken to stop the Liberation Tigers of Sri Lanka from engaging children in the armed conflict," said Ambassador Bernard Goonetilleke, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in an exclusive interview with Asian Tribune on the issue of enforcing embargoes on the LTTE to halt recruitment of children for armed combat.
