Italy offers debt relief to Sri Lanka

(Daily Times, Pakistan) COLOMBO: Italy has cancelled an outstanding debt worth 7.2 million euros to Sri Lanka as part of a tsunami relief package, a Sri Lankan finance ministry statement said Friday.

“Under this debt cancellation arrangement, the debt service payments due to be paid to Italy by Sri Lanka can be used to finance rehabilitation and reconstruction programme of tsunami affected regions,” the statement said.
