"Ready for Talks if LTTE Lay Down Arms" - President
President addresses the 63rd UN General Assembly. Says government will not permit territorial integrity of Sri Lanka to be undermined.
Addressing the 63rd UN General Assembly, President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa said that his country is ready to start negotiations with the LTTE but not until they lay down arms.
President said that there are major issues to be addressed in the country but the LTTE is "exploiting perceived ethnic grievances" to indulge in "blatant and brutal acts of terrorism."
"What the government would not and could not do is to let an illegal and armed terrorist group ... hold a fraction of our population, a part of the Tamil community, hostage to such terror in the northern part of Sri Lanka," Rajapaksa said of the LTTE which has repeatedly walked out of negotiations to continue the bloody campaign against the government.
He also made reference to the "difficult but essential task of building democracy" in the Eastern province which was largely under the LTTE control until the security forces were able to successfully take command and established democracy last year.
The government's latest military campaign has advanced further north into Tiger territory limiting the LTTE to an area around Kilinochchi. The president has vowed to take over Kilinochchi before the end of the year and repeat the democratic and developmental successes of the Eastern province.

The Sinhala terrorist military should lay down arms if they want to talk with the LTTE.
Sinhala people are trying to forcibly takeover Eelam land, which belongs to the Tamil community like what they did with so called Sinhala land, Sri Lanka.
LTTE never left, it was the sinhala government that left. A strategic move to make sure the Tamils will suffer!
