Pro-LTTE Propaganda Activity on the Increase as Forces Close In

Pro-LTTE groups worldwide are increasingly vocal about the "human rights abuses" of the Sri Lankan government. As TamilNet - the leading mouthpiece for the LTTE - reported today that Sen Kandiah, the leader of a pro-LTTE group in Britain called the the British Tamils Forum, addressed the British Labour Party Conference on foreign policy. Kandiah - who holds no official post in the Labour Party contrary to what TamilNet makes its readers believe - spoke about the suffering of the Tamils because of the rights abuses. He called the air force bombings of Tiger camps "indiscriminate bombings on its own people". What he fails to do is make any reference to the violence of the Tamil Tigers and the lack of options a government has when a Tigers as a policy target innocent civilians. If Kandiah's opinions about rights and violence on civilians is to be taken seriously he should mention the hundreds of suicide bombings the LTTE has carried out over the years killing hundreds of civilians including women and children. He should have mentioned at least a few of the many acts of violence like the Aranthalawa massacre, Anuradhapura massacre, Central Bank bombing to name a few that were carried out under Prabhakaran's direct orders for which pro-LTTE groups - including those in the UK - have financially contributed. If his thoughts are to be given credibility he should have mentioned how LTTE has killed number of Tamil greats like Neelan Tiruchelvam, Lakshman Kadirgama and thousands of other fellow Tamils the LTTE has butchered because they disagreed with LTTE's violent ideology.
Pro-LTTE groups have increased propaganda activity as the Sri Lankan forces are closing in on the LTTE leader Prabhakaran who has waged a bloody war in the name of a seperate state. The LTTE is said to have lost over 80% of the land that was once under their control and the Army is said to be 5km from Kilinochchi, the capital of the quasi-state of Eelam.
But there is only so much even the false propaganda can do at this state. The government has vowed to take over Kilinochchi before the end of the year and the international community has been mostly supportive. Aid and arms have flown freely to the country and most countries have started cracking down on the LTTE activities. The reputation of the LTTE has suffered with the revelation that LTTE has used front organizations to raise money for relief activities only to buy weapons that were used on civilians. Furthermore, experts on the matter around the world have agreed that LTTE is and was never interested in a negotiated solution.
In general, the international communities have accepted that Sri Lankan government has little choice when facing a violent organization of this nature. Inaction against a terrorist unit with worldwide span could have disastrous effects. As a result, despite the false propaganda and LTTE sponsored activities, the international community will most likely support the government's effort to eliminate the LTTE in the coming months.
