Petrol tax shoots up to Rs 74 per litre with extra Rs. 18.40 tax
Instead of reducing fuel prices, the government had increased taxes on both diesel and petrol to increase its revenue, by Rs: 18.40 per liter which has been effective since last week.
Fuel prices in the global market have rapidly reduced in the recent past to US $ 100 range per barrel. Regardless of the decrease, The Government of Sri Lanka has once again increased the local taxes for fuel without passing the benefit to the consumer who finds it difficult to survive with the rising cost of living in the country!
