Provincial council is first casualty in the collapse of Sri Lankan ruling alliance

The Western Provincial Council in Sri Lanka became the first casualty in the split of Sri Lanka’s ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) when the WPC Chief Minister Reginald Cooray tendered his resignation after loosing the majority in the council. The downfall of the administration of the council which represents the biggest population among Sri Lanka’s nine provinces could well be the precursor for six other Provincial Councils ruled by the UPFA.
