Joint mechanism with Tamil rebels delayed:Sri Lankan President backtracks

The proposed joint mechanism with the Tamil rebels will not be signed shortly as earlier stated by President Chandrika Kumaratunga. Although senior government sources indicated until yesterday that the joint mechanism with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) would be established by June 15, now there will be a considerable delay.
