Govt official shot dead by suspected Tamil Tiger rebels

April 4 (AP) Suspected Tamil Tiger rebels shot dead a government official Monday amid escalating violence in Sri Lanka's volatile east, the military said. T. Kailanathan, 55, a director at the Ministry of Vocational Training, was having lunch when suspected guerrillas opened fire in Batticaloa, said military spokesman Brig. Daya Ratnayake.
