Karuna to Parliament

The leader of the Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal Vnayagamoorthi Muralidaran, alias Col. Karuna Amman, will be sworn in as a Member of Parliament before Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara when Parliament meets on the 7th of October.

He will fill the vacancy created by JVP member Vasantha Samarasinghe who resigned from Parliament to contest the recent North Central Provincial Council.

The UPFA had written to the Commissioner of Elections nominating Vinayagamoorthi to fill the vacancy in the UPFA list and the Gazette Notification announcing the appointment was due to be published.

In an interview, Karuna thanked the President, Def. Sec Gotabaya Rajapaksha for the opportunity and said he was looking forward to serving his people.

Good move by Mahinda. As appaling as it may be the things Karuna has done in the past, only reconciliation helps ethnic conflicts. Revenge never does.
