LTTE's Attempt on Jaffna turns to a Fiasco- over 100 terrorists dead

Updated: 12/08.2006 at 17.11hrs.
The Military sources said that LTTE's attempted advance in to the Jaffna peninsula has been completely thwarted by combined effort of the tri services. According to the same sources the security forces are now consolidating their defences at the FDL.

The LTTE terrorists attempted to infiltrate Jaffna peninsula with heavy artillery bombardment on Nagarkovil, Muhamalai, Kilali, Mandathivu and Pallaly camps since yesterday night (Friday the 11th of August).

The terrorist attack was carried out by a land advance towards the Nagarkovil and Muhamalai army defences and a seaborne advance towards Kilali and Mandathivu Naval defences. Simultaneously, Air Force base at Pallaly, also came under heavy artillery fire originated from Poonaryn area.

Meanwhile, the Trincomalee naval base was also attacked with the artillery fire this morning (Saturday the 12th of August). The two attacks at Pallaly air base and Trincomalee Naval base were seen as the Terrorists' attempt to isolate the Jaffna peninsula, by cutting off aerial and sea line of communication.

However, the terror attempt turned in to a fiasco as the elite troops of the Sri Lanka army annihilated the terrorist advance from land whilst the Special Boat Squadron of Sri Lanka navy crushed the LTTE's boats in the Kilali lagoon.

Artillery guns and air force bombers successfully neutralized the enemy heavy guns in Poonaryn with well directed bombardment. The radio transmission among the LTTE cadres revealed that at least 54 LTTE cadres were killed at Poonaryn alone.

Naval sources said that at least 25 LTTE Terrorists were killed in the Sea battle. Over 30 bodies of LTTE cadres are also seen scattered around Muhamalai area.

The Media center for national security says that 36 soldiers were injured during the attack. The injured soldiers were immediately rushed to the Pallaly hospital.

Meanwhile" the Pro LTTE media continues to soothe their troubled organization with false reports. The military sources deny any air raid on Pallaly airbase or any damages to Air Craft.
