Akashi concerned about unconstitutional appointments

May 10 (ML) Japanese Envoy Yasushi Akashi on Monday expressed his concern over the manner in which President Mahinda Rajapakse made appointments to the independent commissions. In a meeting with the UNP, Akashi had said independent commissions were meant to be independent, and for this reason appointments had to be made by the Constitutional Council, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya said.
