JVP throw hurdle in way of peace talks

(Kyodo) _ Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga's main coalition ally, the Marxist People's Liberation Front (JVP), threw an obstacle Thursday in the way of the government reviving peace talks with Tamil rebels by publicly declaring firm opposition to any talks beginning on the basis of setting up an "interim authority" for the country's north and east, the area claimed by the rebels as a Tamil homeland.
