Govt. moves to compensate Mavilaru farmers

COLOMBO: The Government will compensate farmers who had their paddy lands destroyed by the closure of the Mavilaru anicut by offering them Rs. 25,000 for each acre of destroyed paddy lands.

The compensation will be made through the Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board (AAIB). The compensation is to be released within a week.
