Sri Lankan military strikes Tiger bases; pro-rebel Web site reports 12 dead

Apr 26 (AP) Sri Lanka's military pounded Tamil Tiger-held territories for a second day Wednesday as the government vowed to retaliate against any rebel attack. The rebels said at least 12 people had been killed in the strikes, that pushed the country to the brink of a return to civil war.
