CFA violations by the LTTE exceeds 3000
Aug 17 (LankaWatch) Based on statistics provided by the Norwegian-led Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, the total number of violations by the LTTE since the signing of the Ceasefire Agreement has now exceeded 3000. The number of violations by the Sri Lankan security forces for the same period is only 132. The most common violations by the Tamil Tigers were forced recruitment of children under the age of 18 which accounted for 1624 violations. Abduction of adults and harassment were also common violations by the Tigers while the most common infraction by the Sri Lankan forces were harassment and hostile acts against civilians.
Norwegian mediators who brokered the peace deal between the LTTE and the Government of Sri Lanka 3 years ago, have come under increasing pressure to act on the ceasefire violations by the LTTE especially after the assassination of the Sri Lankan foreign minister Lakshman Kadiragamar by suspected Tamil Tiger rebels.
