Suspected LTTE gunmen fire at Navy troops, injure a sailor

Suspected LTTE cadres fired at a group of Navy personnel on foot patrol at Swamytottam in Taliamannar. One sailor was injured.

Operational Headquarters today said the sailor, Seaman M.Y. Jayalath, received injuries to his right hand in the gunfire and was admitted to Mannar hospital. A subsequent cordon and search led to the arrest of three local men on suspicion. Two were released after interrogation.
